Day 11 of Myeloma Giving: Pay it Forward in Multiple Myeloma by Becoming a Myeloma Coach
From December 10 – 28, the Myeloma Crowd is sharing 12 Days of Myeloma Giving. Please share this post and invite your friends and family to participate. Each day we will share something you can give to lift others. These gifts will save lives, lengthen lives and makes lives happier and more meaningful – maybe even your own.
As the Myeloma Crowd toured across the United States this summer to visit 50 cities for our HealthTree tour, we met with all kinds of myeloma patients. We realized how few attend support groups or are looking for online information about their disease.
We realized that ALL patients deserve to obtain their best care. As we’ve shared over and over on this site, this starts by going to a myeloma specialist. And getting the right testing so that you know what kind of myeloma genetics you have. But getting your best care is also personal. Having a friend who can point you in the right direction to find and use a wealth of myeloma resources can make all the difference in the world.
The Myeloma Crowd is announcing the creation of a new program called Myeloma Coach. If you’re a myeloma survivor or caregiver and are willing to share your experience and insight gained from your myeloma journey, you can help others navigate through the difficult process of diagnosis and treatment by becoming a Myeloma Coach.
No experience is necessary to become a Myeloma Coach. We will provide you with the tools and training you need to encourage others to become their own best advocates. Training will include online videos, webinars and classes that will be readily available, so it’s easy for you to find the right answer to every question.
It’s simple and easy to become a Myeloma Coach. We ask that you volunteer for 8 or more hours per month for at least a year. You can connect with patients however you prefer: by phone, video chat, email or in person.
For your commitment and service, Myeloma Coaches will receive specialized education, potential attendance at a summer summit in Deer Valley, Utah and Coach materials. You’ll also be rewarded by knowing that you are helping your fellow myeloma friends live longer and better lives.
If you would like to become a Myeloma Coach, email us today at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our Myeloma Coach website is coming soon and it will allow you to sign up and connect directly with patients looking for a Myeloma Coach. Join us in this effort and share your experience to help others successfully navigate myeloma.
Together, we can reach all 100,000 living myeloma patients and extend life. You’ll be glad you got involved.
“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”
