African American Myeloma Chapter

Event Description

Will Wright is an African American man who made an incredible transformation in his diet and in his life. He has made it his mission to educate other African Americans on how they can improve their diet and still keep their culture. Will will break down many of the myths associated with a plant based diet and how we can prepare meals in a non-traditional manner and still maintain the flavor and goodness we are accustomed to. Healthy eating doesn’t mean giving up our rich culture.

The panelist Will J. Wright
Will J. Wright

Will J. Wright says he has a renewed outlook on his future health outcomes. Two years ago, after coming to grips that after surviving prostate cancer and renal cell carcinoma, he now faced myeloma, albeit in its early stage. Will’s first response was to get serious about the implications of the disease and truly focus on ways to mitigate or at least slow down the disease’s onslaught. At the time of this epiphany, Will weighed 216 pounds and was a clinically obese diabetic. Today, he’s down to 160 pounds and has not used insulin to balance his blood sugar in 10 months. Will is excited to tell his story and support the journey of fellow travelers navigating life with myeloma.
